The Elections

In a democratic set up, in the process of electing the leaders by a voting process offers equal right to all citizens or members of association. This idea of one vote per citizen or a member will be great if all are equally committed to elect an able leader who will work for the collective gain. But unfortunately people are utterly selfish. They want to gain in terms of their profession, status, caste, religion and in whatever way they can identify themselves. It is obvious that the value of each vote is not the same. However the very basis of democracy is that it values all vote equally. So the smart candidate does a home work and devices ways and means of accumulating vote. Votes can be gained by fueling caste feeling, by promising support for minority religion, promising good pay packages for the people in government services and by offering free benefits to the so called economically backward people.  Votes can also be bought with money. Sadly very few votes can be gain...

The joy of sharing my Deepavali Gift

A friend of mine wished me Happy Deepavali for next twelve years starting with this year, Another one wished me to be blessed with 16 fortunes as defined by Indian mythology, There was an offer for CASH defined as C- care, A-affection, S-smiles and H-hugs, There were fountain crackers and butterflies wishing colourful Deepavali through SMS The wishes came from north, east, south and west surrounding me in all directions The close ones called me over phone to express the best wishes and get wished spontaneously The air and ether are filled with waves of happy wishes available to all and in plenty Now it is my turn to share all these with all those whom I meet through this post, When we earn more we get tuned to share and become joyous in giving and sharing It appears that festivals are there to give and share and not to look for what we get. Let me be blessed with the joy of sharing that is eternal and could even be immortal. ( The 16 fortunes ar...

The beliefs that drive people( For those who are interested in “Why')

April 24,2012 was celebrated as Akshaya Thrithiyai a festival recently rediscovered to buy gold. It all started five years ago when a smart jeweler in our town caught hold of a so called Prohit to sow a belief that will boost his sales. A Prohit is a person who projects himself to have great knowledge of Hindu rituals and dresses him self in distinctly peculiar ways, fore head shaved and the hair left to grow long on the back is tied in a knot. They wear some religious marks on the temple either three horizontal bands of holy ash or a white U or Y mark having a red line in the middle. Just as one does not question an automobile mechanic, people in India do not question these Prohits also. It is understood that there are some Veda Schools that teach the authentic techniques for the popular rituals and the Vedic rhymes that are to be chanted as mantras during the rituals. But most of these Prohits do not study there. They gain the knowledge of these mantras from some senior Prohit. Th...

MEDITATION

I learnt Transcendental Meditation(TM) through the institute of Guruji Mahesh Yogi. Then I learnt Simplified Kundalini Yoga (SKY) taught by Guruji Vedathri Maharishi. All these I did 25 years ago. I have read the topics on meditation written by Swami Vivekananda, Swami Jugi Vasudev and also browsed through some chapters by Pathanchali Maharishi, Osho and also J. Krishnamoorthy. You may ask me why I am not satisfied with the first technique TM. Transcendental Meditation bring inner peace by focusing the mind initially on a mantra then reaching a state of no thoughts. This they say will be blissful happiness. I was not convinced because to escape from the real world and to stay away did not convince me. In SKY the mind is focused on the tip of the spinal cord called the Mooladhara Chakra and the energy dormant there is raised to the fore head. One could feel a mild pressure between the eye brows and observing this will calm down ones mind. A calm mind is capable of concentration....

Finding the right person to lead your team.

All organisations big and small are confronted with the task of finding a suitable person as a team leader. The requirement could be in any level. Each organisation might be having a set of criteria for selecting a suitable person. The following criteria appears to be most vital since experience says that the collapse of a team is because of serious mistakes in any one of these considerations. The qualities that are required. The person should have good understanding of the four aspects viz. importance of social values, the importance of money ,the importance of enjoyment and the value of human life. A person who does not understand social values may irritate his subordinates by not recognising their social obligations. Money is a scarce resource and using it effectively by itself will set a good culture. An understanding of the need for optimum pleasure, indulgence and enjoyment is a must. An understanding of the value of human life is very important so that at any level the ...
